We are looking for a research scientist with expertise experimental applied physics to join the Applied Physics team at our research center in Västerås, Sweden. You will lead multidisciplinary research projects developing cutting-edge technologies for future Hitachi Energy products.
How you'll make an impact
Together with your colleagues, solve challenging R&D problems using a combination of analytical, computational and experimental methods.
With support from operation specialists, test and validate your ideas by building prototypes, and experiments in the labs or on pilot units.
Build your network in the company and actively disseminate your results in presentations, technical reports, patent applications, and scientific publications.
Work closely with our global multidisciplinary team of researchers and operation specialists in Hitachi Energy Research, our business units, universities and industrial partners.
Propose and lead technology development projects to bring innovative new ideas from concepts to solutions ready for handover to the R&D product development teams.
Learn about Hitachi Energy products. Identify issues, possible improvements and challenge established designs.
Keep up with the latest development from competitors and academia, to contribute to shaping Hitachi Energy’s technology strategy.
Continuously learn new methodologies and tools within your competence area and apply them to Hitachi Energy’s products and applications.

Your background
Required:
PhD in physics, preferably with a focus in high-voltage or dielectrics.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, team player attitude, initiative, and creativity.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Considered a strong advantage:
Experience with high voltage insulation systems.
Hands?on experience measuring high?field phenomena, including partial discharge, electrical breakdown, electromagnetic fields, and shockwaves in gaseous or liquid environments.
Hands-on experience using instruments such as voltage and current probes, photodiodes, silicon photomultipliers, scientific cameras (high speed or high sensitivity), oscilloscope, lock in amplifiers, custom optical setups (e.g. shadowgraphy, polarimetry).
Experience with numerical or multiphysics simulation tools, such as COMSOL, CST, ANSYS, or comparable open?source packages.
Experience with data analysis using scripting languages such as Python or Matlab.

Nice to have:
Experience designing and procuring simple mechanical parts or electronics using CAD / EDA engineering tools.
Experience or interest developing machine learning application.

We are now looking for an R&D Hardware Development – Senior Engineer in Västerås.
Description:
R&D Hardware development consists of requirement management, hardware design, design reviews, prototype build and functional verification. Besides meeting the functional requirements non-functional requirements such as cost, quality and time target shall be met. Work processes and associated tools are provided and the expectation is that processes are followed and provided tools are used unless other agreements are made.
Independently perform various engineering duties requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices, towards set goals. Plan, conduct or coordinate a range of complex engineering activities encompassing one or more engineering disciplines. Conduct or coordinate complex analyses, advanced technical studies and develop recommendations based on sound engineering practices and business considerations as well as potentially legal and other agency requirements.
Your Responsibilities
• To analyze product requirements, break them down and specify them to meet customers’ expectations of high quality and safety.
• To capture these requirements in specifications while leaving freedom for optimization to our hardware suppliers.
• Develop new HW modules together with partners (ODMs): technical requirement, HW design, design review (FMEA, DFT, EMC, etc.), testing, verification, validation, and documentation.
• Lead or contribute to HW systems integration, EMC, electrical safety and type test, and NPI (New Product Introduction) activities.
• Maintain existing HW modules (Cost Cuts, EOL, Production Support).
• Lead or contribute to HW development projects within an international matrix organization (Hardware, Firmware, Software, Test, Supply Chain, EMS, Quality, and Production teams).
• Contribute to continuous improvement of our ways of working.
Minimum requirements of education and experience:
• Minimum six (6) years of work experience within the relevant field and a bachelor or master’s degree, or
• Another technical degree with more than 15 years of work experience within relevant field.
• Working command of the English language.
Your background
• University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 6 years of experience in HW Development, preferably with agile and lean methodologies.
• Expertise in at least one hardware specific discipline, as e.g., analog design, EMC, electrical safety, …
• Hands-on experience with electronics measurement, EMC, testing, and debugging.
• It will be a part of your job to communicate with external partners, project leaders, other departments and suppliers. It is therefore important that you are open-minded and straightforward in your communication.

Position description
 

We are currently seeking a research engineer for a project in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.

In this position, your main tasks will be:


• Using LLMs to perform accurate translation between two languages: Lingua Franca (LF) and Rebeca.
• Designing and implementing an LLM-based tool to translate a Rebeca program (Prog-R) into an LF program (Prog-L).
• Using LLMs to explain why Prog-R and Prog-L have the same semantics and to generate difference exposing tests (DETs) that detect semantic differences between two given programs.
• Setting up a pipeline for code translation, adapting the translation technique based on preliminary results, curating a dataset, conducting experiments, and writing the final report.

As a research engineer, you are expected to take responsibility for planning and executing your work, take initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and be able to collaborate with others both within and outside academia.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for you who has with a master’s degree in computer science or software engineering. Prior knowledge of reactive and actor-based languages, as well as large language models and language translation using LLMs, is mandatory. You should have extensive experience in reading and writing complex scientific articles and giving presentations to large groups. The position requires a strong motivation for research, as well as good oral and written communication skills in English.

Merit
For this position, a PhD in Computer Science or Software Engineering is advantageous. Additional knowledge of Chain-of-thought (CoT) and Self-consistency strategies when working with LLMs is beneficial.
