Lyten is now seeking Material Development Engineer. You will be responsible for technical activities related to the evaluation and analysis of Li battery cells and associated materials. The position focuses on supporting the development, optimization, and validation of materials and components to ensure reliable performance in both commercial and R&D cell projects.


Key Responsibilities
Conduct material characterization, electrochemical testing, and performance evaluation of Li battery cells and related components.
Analyze test data to assess material behaviours, degradation mechanisms, and cell performance trends.
Support design and process optimization efforts to improve cell performance, safety, and manufacturability.
Perform failure analysis to identify root causes of performance deviations and propose corrective actions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including cell design, process, and quality groups—to ensure consistent material evaluation standards and test methodologies.
Prepare technical documentation, data summaries, and reports to support engineering decisions and project reviews.
Stay informed on advancements in Li battery materials, analysis techniques, and relevant industry standards.
Execute assigned evaluation and analysis tasks in consultation with senior engineers and contribute to achieving project milestones.



Qualifications and Experience
BSc or MSc in Chemical/Material/Electrical Engineering, and Chemistry.
Experience and good understanding in evaluation, testing, or analysis of Li battery cells or related materials.
Proficiency in analytical and electrochemical testing methods (e.g., EIS, charge/discharge cycling, material characterization).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to data integrity and reproducibility.
Effective communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary R&D environment.



Specific skills
Hands-on experience with electrochemical testing (charge/discharge, EIS, CV).
Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Origin, Python preferred).
Familiarity with material characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, ICP).
Understanding of laboratory QA/QC principles.
Ability to follow established test protocols with precision and consistency.

As a research and development technician you will be working in an internationel enviroment where you'll present improvements for better safety procedures related to the lab and it's equiment. The employment involves producing work orders in the lab with a safe process and control so the process is done with correct steps. You will also work alot with 5S to secure the work in the lab. You will also document the productions parameters and observe what's important for the process.

The EMEA Fuel Engineering department in Västerås, Sweden is responsible for core design for both BWR and PWR reactors. Our work provides a critical contribution to the operations and business of nuclear power plants around the world. Thermohydraulic analysis, fuel rod design analysis and criticality analyses, to assure safe and optimized fuel to our customers, are other responsibilities of our skilled and dedicated team.
Your Day-To-Day Work
Using Westinghouse-specific PWR core simulators such as ANC, PHOENIX and PARAGON, your task is the nuclear design for our customers’ PWR reactors. Our work is partly cyclical and involves close collaboration with our American colleagues. Developing nuclear fuel design for manufacturing and performing core simulations based on the fuel assemblies’ placement in the core, you contribute to the optimization of fuel utilization and assurance that the safety requirements are fulfilled. All analyses are documented in reports, most often in English.
Examples of customer projects that you can be involved in as a nuclear design engineer are cycle specific safety analyses, development of the nuclear design for manufacturing, review of core loading plans developed by the customer, licensing of fuel and business quotes. We also perform criticality analyses for our fuel factory as well as for our customers.
Who You Are
Your academic background is preferably a PhD in, for example, nuclear physics and work experience in the field of core design and criticality calculations with MCNP is necessary.
You are an analytical person with a good sense of accuracy, accountability and safety. Your communication skills are good in both written and spoken English and preferably also in Swedish, Russian and Ukrainian, and you enjoy working both independently as well as in a team. As documentation of analysis results is an essential part of the work, you should also have a talent for writing reports.

Arbetsuppgifter
Som forskningsrådgivare bistår du forskare och forskargrupper med råd och stöd både i den långsiktiga strategiska utvecklingen av universitetets forskningsverksamhet och vid ansökningar om forskningsmedel till internationella och nationella forskningsfinansiärer.

Du arbetar utifrån en god kännedom om forskningsfinansieringslandskapet och de ekonomiska och administrativa regler som gäller för olika finansiärer och för högskolan som förvaltande myndighet av forskningsbidrag.

I tjänsten som forskningsrådgivare ingår även


• att utgöra ett strategiskt stöd till universitetsledningen och till forskningsledarna och bistå dessa med analyser och underlag
• att analysera och informera om kommande utlysningar och värdera vilka utlysningar som är lämpliga för MDU:s forskare
• att läsa och ge feedback på ansökningar för att förbättra läsbarhet, struktur, och projektets genomslag, samt för att säkerställa att formella krav på ansökan är uppfyllda
• viss administrativ hantering av avtal som rör forskningsprojekt och -samarbeten med externa parter i nära samarbete med universitetets jurister
• att initiera och genomföra internutbildningar, seminarier och workshops

Arbetet utförs i nära samarbete med andra stödjande funktioner inom universitetet såsom ekonomer, jurister, kommunikatörer och bibliotekarier, och innebär även i övrigt många kontakter inom och utanför organisationen. Tidvis sker arbetet under tidspress. Arbetet utgår från universitetets båda campus i Västerås och Eskilstuna, men tjänsteresor kan förekomma.

Kvalifikationer
Vi söker dig som har en doktorsexamen, gärna inom ett forskningsområde som matchar någon av universitetets forskningsinriktningar, alternativt har annan akademisk examen och tidigare erfarenhet av forskningsrådgivarrollen.

Du har god kunskap om forskningens villkor och det forskningspolitiska landskapet.

Du har erfarenhet av forskningsmedelsansökningar till internationella och/eller nationella forskningsfinansiärer.

Du gillar att samarbeta, är driven men lyhörd och serviceinriktad. Du bör ha förmågan att strukturera din vardag då du hanterar många ärenden parallellt och du behöver periodvis klara av arbete med korta deadlines.

Du har god förmåga att kommunicera på både svenska och engelska i tal och skrift, och gillar att hålla presentationer och seminarier inför grupper av olika storlek.
