The Data Center Engineer (Mechanical Equipment) will be responsible for ensuring the overall operation and maintenance of all cooling and associated mechanical / electrical / controls equipment within the nominated Datacenters. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. The Data Center Engineering Technician (Mechanical Equipment) will continue to maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum, the engineer will drive innovation to reduce operational costs.
The Data Center Engineer (Mechanical Equipment) are Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting for cooling equipment including Air Handling Units, Computer Room Air Handling Units and ancillary equipment initially, with scope to increase in the future to other mechanical infrastructure. They will plan, coordinate, manage and conduct preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. They will also identify root causes of faults, plan and deliver reactive and corrective maintenance.

Key job responsibilities
• Plan out, prepare sequence of operations and deliver preventative maintenance across all nominated Data Center sites.
• Identify, purchase and store spares and parts required for planned and reactive works.
• Conduct root cause analysis on failures and action remediation.
• Mentor and guide on site Engineering Operations Technicians unfamiliar with the equipment for immediate on site reaction during an event.
• Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
• Perform maintenance tasks to include: filter changes, tank inspections, legionella testing, pump maintenance.
• Perform first level trouble-shooting.
• Develop and implement risk assessments and method statements for works.
• Work on call or out of hours when required, though standard working arrangement will be Monday to Friday normal office hours.
• Take daily operational readings and provide to Senior Engineers for metrics reporting.
• Input and management of EAM for assigned assets.
• Update maintenance reports and planners.
• Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization.

Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities include manual tasks, such as assembling, addressing, stamping and arranging for the shipment of merchandise and materials. We also handle hardware installation in racks, device configuration and upgrades, as well as executing scripts. Collaboration with multiple teams is crucial whilst working on projects as we maintain regular progress updates. The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The CE serves as an expert technical resource interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third-party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations and to support Amazon within its owned and operated data centers.
The role will be based in Sweden (Eskilstuna, Vasteras and Katrineholm), however flexibility is required to travel to other locations within the EMEA region if required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s or Master degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years relevant industry related experience and Full EU Driving licence.
· Demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies and theory including know and apply safe electrical practice according to guidelines set by relevant electrical safety supervisory bodies and experience of Data Center infrastructure: UPS, backup generator systems and generic mechanical-room infrastructure chillers, Cooler Units, and fan controls).
· Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout (copper / fibre) as well as low / high voltage (copper/ fibre) cabling, BMS Systems, Monitoring and alarming systems. )

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) serves a key role as a cornerstone of facility operations, supporting Amazon within its owned and operated data centers. All data center equipment supporting customer services must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.
Key job responsibilities
The EOT is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves conducting both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues.
The EOT serves as an operator as well as a first-line resource reporting to a site’s Data Center Facility Manager (FM), receiving daily instruction from the Chief Engineer (CE) and interacting with third party vendors. The EOT maintains training compliance as related to their role of operating, troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to:
- Stand-by emergency generators
- Low and medium voltage electrical systems
- Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Water treatment systems
- Building automation systems
- Fire detection and air quality monitoring systems
- Server racks
A day in the life
- Working semi-autonomously in operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center
- Execution of project scopes of basic complexity
- Providing timely escalation for all facilities-related issues within the data center
- First-line troubleshooting and reporting of facility and high-criticality events within a pre-determined service level agreement (SLA)
- Providing assistance to junior and peer EOTs
- Oversight of third-party vendors to ensure that all work performed is in accordance with established safety protocols, best practices, and local legislation
- Utilization of administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and asset management.
- Flexibility for changes to work schedule depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule.

The Data Center Engineering Operations Team is a group committed to maintaining the critical data center infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this team works to ensure that the facility's Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems operate at near 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the supporting teams and key stakeholders of the data centers.
