We are looking for a dedicated Process Quality Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is part of our excellent team based in Västerås. By joining us, you will be a key player in building one of the first large-scale European battery factories.
Job Scope
The Process Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of production processes, focusing on the identification and resolution of process inefficiencies and quality deviations. This role aims to optimize manufacturing workflows, improve product consistency, and implement robust quality control measures throughout the production cycle. As an experienced engineer, you will work around Recycling & Cathode active material. Evaluation and Analysis related works will be carried out toward the final goal of successful cathode incorporation in commercial and R&D projects. The works will be carried out with the consultation of senior QC engineer.
Key resbonsibilites
Monitor and evaluate production processes to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure product quality standards are met.
Develop and implement process control plans, quality assurance procedures, and process optimization initiatives.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address process deviations, product defects, and non-conformances.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, R&D, and supply chain, to ensure alignment on quality standards and process improvements.
Conduct statistical analysis and quality performance metrics to identify trends and drive continuous process improvement.
Ensure compliance with quality standards such as ISO, ASTM, and other relevant industry guidelines.
Lead and participate in process audits and inspections to verify compliance with internal and external quality requirements.
Provide training and support to production staff on quality-related topics and process control methods.
Support the introduction of new products or processes by ensuring proper validation and qualification activities are conducted.
Operate and maintain analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, XRF, XRD, SEM, and other relevant equipment to assess the quality of materials.
Lead the development and validation of analytical methods for new materials, ensuring accurate and reliable test results.
Prepare and review detailed reports and technical documents outlining analysis results, deviations, and recommended actions.
Active material evaluation in its physico-chemical aspects including BET, DSC, various densities and orientation index (XRD) in collaboration with QC lab.

Qualifications and experience
BSc or MSc in Chemical/Material/Electrical Engineering, and Chemistry
Preferably 1+ years industrial experience in R&D of cathode materials
Experience in chemical analysis or similar
Experience in physical analysis or similar
Experience in precursor for CAM
Experience in CAM for Li-ion batteries
Experience in Recycling Li-ion batteries
Experience in characterization and evaluation of pCAM and CAM
Strong background from technical culture and proven engineering excellence in relevant field(s)
Experience working with international colleagues and customers
Must worked in multi-cultural environment

We are looking for a dedicated Quality Management System Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is part of our excellent team based in Skellefteå. By joining us, you will be a key player in building one of the first large-scale European battery factories.
You would be responsible for defining and implementing Quality Management System in BU Materials at Northvolt, meeting or exceeding the Customers’ quality requirements and in compliance with relevant quality standards.
You would be Northvolt’s expert in building and upholding an excellent Management System and provide internal consultation, when needed.
Key Responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
Lead, drive and ensure successful implementation and continued certification of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 or other relevant standards
Manage Quality Management System in BU Materials at Northvolt including driving continual improvement and the integration with the other management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
Execute internal audit programme and compile executive summary with prioritised non-conformities.
Coach, Train and lead internal auditors and ensure they have the right competence
Prepare for and run Management Reviews at required frequency
Responsible for ensuring action tracker is kept, up to date and that improvement actions are completed in the organisation
Ensure the organisation deploys effective KPI’s and objectives and that performance is systematically evaluated and analysed
Provide leadership and technical expertise within Quality Management
Develop & coordinate in defining the process maps and upskill the organisation
Stay up to date with best practise quality management

Qualifications and experience
MSc / BE in e.g. Chemical/Industrial/Mechanical engineering
7+ years’ experience in leading quality management role
Experienced in implementing management systems and standards
Experienced in quality improvement and problem-solving tools such as six sigma, 8D e.g.
Relevant quality education, e.g. ISO 9001 lead auditor
Experienced in Quality functions from automotive or other relevant industry

Specific skills
Native English proficiency
Excellent knowledge of Lean manufacturing, six-sigma, 8D, 5S, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949
Knowledge of Risk Management, Risk Identification and Risked Based approaches
Knowledgeable in Business Process Management

Northvolt is now looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer within dismantling for our recycling operations. The purpose of the dismantling process is to dismantle battery packs as preparation for crushing/sorting. 

As Senior Mechanical Engineer – Automated Dismantling, you will play an important role in shaping and developing the tools and processes we use in our dismantling processes. You will play an important role in dealing with equipment vendors and collaborating with Northvolt’s factory design team to efficiently integrate the dismantling solution into the factory as well as with Northvolt collaboration partners. You are probably experienced in product development and industrial processes. You have been driving innovative, and challenging improvement projects. You are a team player, curious and eager to learn. 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
Lead and define mechanical solutions for dismantling of battery packs together with relevant partners to make the dismantling process in a safe, ergonomic, and efficient manner  - Develop/design tools (e.g. robotic end effectors or similar), fixtures and methods for battery dismantling  - Implement and support standardized processes.  - Support delivery on BU's innovation objectives.

You would be responsible for analysing materials, incoming parts, product intermediates and finalized products for R&D and production, using a wide range of instruments. Skilled specialist in a specific area or scope of the laboratory. Proactively participates in problem solving, technical trouble shooting and technical discussions. Key Responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
Write the testing plans and work instructions for materials, incoming parts, product intermediates and finalized products
Perform testing of control plan inspection items and special requests, using a variety of laboratory instruments
Specialized and increased responsibilities in a specific area or scope of the laboratory
Perform data analysis, interpret data and report data/results
Organize test results in the expected template and/or LIMS system, maintain control charts, and take correct actions when results are found to be out of specification
Be able to troubleshoot first of line problems arising on the instruments
Drive method improvements; help update standard operating procedures as needed
Understand the fundamentals of method development and validation and take a major part in the execution side
Mentor and train the quality control technicians and associates on the analysis methods
Perform regular (daily, weekly, monthly) preventive maintenance on instruments
Adhere to and ensure 5S and safety protocols are maintained within the laboratory work environment
Always work with safety as first priority

Qualifications and experience
Bachelor or Master degree in Chemical, Material or Mechanical Engineering or Science
Relevant previous work experience in a quality environment in automotive
Hands-on experience with several analytical instruments and measurement devices
Specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM
Knowledgeable in Lean and six sigma
Familiar with SPC, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem-solving methodology
Previous experience in method development and validation
Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background
Experience in training colleagues on various devices and instruments

Specific skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, Swedish is a plus
User experience with Office and JIRA software
